why i’m awesome/not awesome
I am awesome because:
-I have (as of today) mailed out completed applications for two grad schools.
-I finally went to the bank, deposited checks, and paid my cell phone bill
-Carrie is coming to visit on Saturday! For five days! Carrie!
-I found a place to live in California! There will undoubtedly be a “moving into the apartment where I’ll be renting a room for 8 months” post. (Although I hope I can come up with a better title than that when the time comes.)
-I got xmas presents in the mail from my dad today. I heart my dad.
-I am wrapped up in the softest blanket I have ever felt in my life. I would like to take this opportunity to give a shout out to Frankie and say THANK YOU for getting me the pink nap/cuddle blanket from Brookstone that I have wanted for YEARS.
-The one huge pan of baked ziti that I made has lasted for days and days and is continuously feeding my insatiable need for pasta. (Oooh, so this is why I’m gaining weight? Right, got it.)
-I might be driving cross-country with Jessica on January 7th!!! Stay tuned for updates on this situation and cross your fingers that it happens, because thinking of it makes my brain do this: lsdkfdflkgjlkj
-My half birthday is tomorrow (I acknowledge that this means nothing and am unsure about why I even wrote it)
-I made the below pictured three dimensional Santa Claus cake* (remember when I hinted at it and you were all dying to see pictures? No? This didn’t happen? Oh well too bad here you go…)
*It has been brought to my attention (by The Boyfriend) that due to a dark cake mix and insufficient amounts of red food coloring, I have created a strange and yet politically correct Arab Santa wearing a pink coat/dress. Whatever- this is totally what I was going for.
I am not so awesome because:
-I still have 8 more grad school applications to mail out
-I have only recently started to consider what will happen if I don’t get into to any of the MFA programs that I’m applying to. (I haven’t reached any conclusions, as this thought makes me want to gag.)
-My tonsils are the size of golf balls (again) and I am feverish and dizzy and all around sick (again)
-I’ve been trying to diagnose myself on webmd and am now convinced I have both pneumonia and cancer.
-I just had to spell check the word pneumonia.
-I’m afraid that the inevitable pneumonia and cancer will prevent me from getting insanely drunk having fun with Carrie
-I leave for California in 26 days. (WHAT?!)
-I still haven’t figured out what to do about a car in California. 8 months is too short of a time to lease a car for, I can’t afford to buy even a cheap car and then resell it, I can’t afford to rent a car, etc etc. DILEMMA.
-My mom has changed her plans from “going to see my dad from whom she’s separating for Christmas” to “MOVING back to Arizona.” Um, what? This clearly could be its own post, but because along with not letting my mom occupy all of my time with Hillary, I am no longer going to let her monopolize my blog, it’s not going to be.

What is wrong with us and this sickness!? Why can’t it be over? I hope your time with Carrie isn’t ruined, try to sleep whenever you can. And CCongrats on getting 2 apps in! You can do them all soon!
PS your mom is going down a tricky path on a slippery slope, I’m sorry you have to worry about her… I know we all worry over our own mothers, and for good reasons
Oh dilemma on the car! I know nothing and cannot help!
Also that the best Santa ever haha! Strange and politically correct- what else should a 3-d santa be? Hey?
Ps you’re totally getting into the best one so cross number 2 from your not awesome list off, sugar!
still laughing:

STILL.
and also that you made a 3-d santa? nicole, i want you as my girlfriend.
can we just name him santa burhka?
still laughing.
it’s the front shot of santa burhka. i can’t not laugh.
whatever we do, we can’t call him Muhammad. the sudanese will cane us. if they got that nuts about a teddy bear, can you IMAGINE how they’d feel about a 3-d santa cake?
Web MD= Dangerous. I find myself calling the doctor saying, “I need to make an appointment because I have _______ (some crazy medical problem that there’s a 99.9% chance I don’t have). They must have figured it out, because the last time I called, the lady said, “let me have you talk to a nurse first…”
P.S- Congrats on the Grad Apps! Even sending ONE is a huge accomplishment. I only got so far as taking the GRE.
I’m no doctor, but I’m pretty sure pneumonia and cancer negate each other, so you should be good there. Like when two people try to go through a door at the same time, getting stuck in the frame and thus neither can get through.
“I’ve been trying to diagnose myself on webmd and am now convinced I have both pneumonia and cancer.
-I just had to spell check the word pneumonia.”
LOL! aaaw hunny I’m sure you’ll be fine.
Half birthdays , I have never heard anyone mentioned that be for. I’m thinking of celebrating my half birthday idea ; hillarious!
That Santa had me cracking up; your bf description is funny. It looks really good though, takes skills!
Goodluck with those grad schools, I’m sure you’ll get in, don’t worry. either way ur fab.
The Santa! Oh my gosh! I am still laughing (haha I just saw Damsel’s comments - ditto!) That is absolutely AWESOME.
AHHH im so excited im in your blog!! That Santa is so cool it looks great!! That blanket is so comfortable and soft and just flat out AMAZING!
you made that cake?!? holy frick that’s incredible.
and um. i wanna eat him.
Ummm I love the cake!!! That is sooo great.
And I highly doubt you’re going to have to think about what to do if you don’t get into an MFA program…because you’re going to get into one! Obviously.
That is the most amazing cake I have ever seen! You are so brilliant. I don’t have a clue how I could turn my standard funfetti cupcakes into that.
I always realize when it’s someone else’s half birthday. Once a guy asked me if my family celebrated half birthdays, because I mentioned when mine was. Perhaps we SHOULD start celebrating half birthdays…I mean, why not eat more cake and drink more wine?
And I agree with Susie. You will absolutely get into an MFA program! No need to worry.
You are leaving in 26 days? Um, we need to get together at least 4 times before then, so, um, get out your planner girl!
Also, that cake is awesome. Can you make me one for my birthday? It is in 17 days in case you were wondering.
Yay for early presents from dad! And boo for mom moving to Arizona.
And I hope one of the applications you sent out was to NYU. Because you will definitely get in there and like you said, we can have matching degrees. Plus that means you will be in NYC.
Talk soon!
You win for making that cake!
Make me a puppy one? Ohh! Or a golden snitch one like in the last Harry Potter book!
oooh grad schools. good for you on getting a couple apps out. you’re ahead of me! applying for grad school = my life. ugg.
That cake gets about two million awesome points. Are you gonna eat it for your half birthday?
web md is a dangerous drug my friend! I had to pry myself off that recently because a headache basically turned into the ebola virus. And I think you need to submit those cake pictures into some sort of contest.. (i’ll research that during work today)! How do you actually cut something like that? Either way- it frickin’ rocks. PC or Not..
1. My half birthday is on April Fools’ Day! Happy 1/2 B-Day!
2. That cake is awesome!
You are a baking goddess! I really want to go back to school and get my MFA too. Sigh, but when? I don’t know.
I love that cake! I think you’re awesome! So glad I found your little space here.
That cake is brilliant. You are my hero!
I saw that cake mold and I want it! How much fun was it to make that? Agh, so jealous right now…
Half Birthday? Please explain.
And if you haven’t been to an In and Out Burger while in Cali you must go. I’m forcing you. Have a great day.
Ooh. Self-diagnosing is not good for your mental health. I always manage to convince myself that I have some rare disease whenever I try. Also, that cake is all sorts of wonderful.
Good job on getting 20% of your applications finished. I feel your pain, girl. (Also, you will get in.)
goodness you’ve got a lot going on! I love the cake and yay for finding a place in California and getting some apps done, woo!
And get better soon, being sick is no fun! Especially with friends in town to visit!
God bless webmd from the hypochondriac in all of us. I love that website and routinely self-diagnose too
